Why Gosnell, God? Why Boston?

Not long ago, we learned that Kermit Gosnell had been killing babies in the third trimester and even after they were delivered, for decades. Just this week, we watched as bombs ripped through an unsuspecting crowd in downtown Boston. They’re not the same, but they are horrifying and mouth-stopping evils.

It’s enough to make us cry out to God, “Arise, O Lᴏʀᴅ; O God, lift up your hand; forget not the afflicted. Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart, ‘You will not call to account’?” (Psalm 10:12–13). Why God? Why allow Gosnell to gruesomely murder these innocents? Why allow the explosions to maim so many innocents, and even kill three? You are God, right? You won’t let them get away with this wickedness, will you?

The Safest Place in Boston

The Psalm goes on, “But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands; to you the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless. Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer; call his wickedness to account till you find none” (Psalm 10:14–15).

Until you find none, Lord. You have seen the corruption, the crimes against these people, men, women, and children whom you formed in your image. We have seen pictures, but you saw the acts, every pulse of wickedness in Gosnell’s heart and every inch of the bomber’s plan. Hunt it down and erase it, Lord. All of it. Show the world that you really are in control and that what is right will eventually and decisively win.

You watched and waited, “that you may take it into your hands.” You were not absent or unaware, and you will not abandon justice. No one — not Kermit Gosnell, not the nameless Boston bomber — no one can defy you and not be destroyed. And somehow mysteriously, all according to your sovereign wisdom and plan, their destruction will reveal who you are — that you are really, really good.

You are the only safe place for the suffering. You are the helper of the fatherless, children dashed to pieces on the bloodstained table of terror at the Women’s Society in West Philadelphia. You are the helper of the helpless marathon watchers wounded without cause or reason. You are the helper of people all over the globe helpless to understand or explain these massacres. We can’t explain this now, and we’ll never be able to change it, but you,our God, are a God who demands justice and executes it perfectly. You are a safe place for all the sorrowful, confused, and slain, whoever will trust you, even while we can’t see you in the midst of these scary scenes.

You Put Terror Out of Business

“The Lᴏʀᴅ is king forever and ever; the nations perish from his land. O Lᴏʀᴅ, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.”

Lord, our hearts are weak with grief, despair, and anger. Now, and with every atrocity, we will ask a thousand questions and wonder how you could possibly be at work in these evils. Strengthen our hearts according to your promises. Give us patience to wait upon your final act of justice, when everything will be made right. In that day, we will watch as you make terror the victim, a story never to appear on another front page.

At the darkest moments of our lives, we can have strength and hope in you because at the darkest moment in history you guaranteed the end of the violence and perversion that fills our news now. As we ask how you could allow nails to take an 8-year-old boy’s life, remind us that you looked on in infinite love for us as nails pierced your precious Son. It was at his cross that you defeated the devil’s hold on this world, ransoming your children from our own wickedness and promising the eradication of all evil. All injustice will be punished, either in Jesus’s wounds or by his sword.

You walked with your Son to Calvary’s hill. You stood beside the bloody table in West Philadelphia. You watched the fatal finish line in Boston. And your love and justice will prevail in every place.

You will destroy every evil until there is none — none in us and none in this world.

The Evolving Sexual Agenda

I recently read a report from a “gay” news source that so-called “gay marriage” was only one part of the real agenda for those redefining marriage. The report stated the following:

Legislative victory should not mean identity erasure. There remain numerous sexual freedoms to campaign on – yes sexual – that’s what gay rights is about, not merely a civil rights campaign – and there are battles still to be won. Battles relating to pornography, the continued criminalisation of consensual sexual acts, re-constructing our ideas of relationships in relation to sex, monogamy and the illusion that only ‘couples’ might want to enter into a state-sanctioned partnership, are just a handful which spring to mind.

We are beginning to see examples of this continually evolving “sexual freedoms” campaign in the U.S.

An issue that has repeatedly surfaced across the U.S. has been schools that want to affirm so-called “transgender” students. In 2012, a Massachusetts law known as the Transgender Equal Rights bill took effect, banning discrimination in employment, housing, and so on.

Now, the Boston Globe reported that, because of this new law, the Massachusetts school system has altered the way it deals with traditional gender categories:

The state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education issued directives Friday for handling transgender students, including allowing them to use the bathrooms or play on the sports teams that correspond to the gender with which they identify.

Another report stated, “The 11-page directive also urged schools to eliminate gender-based clothing and gender-based activities – like having boys and girls line up separately to leave the classroom.”

I believe the above mandate is likely to lead to a host of problems. Sadly, these school authorities don’t recognize the sinful heart of man and what can come out from it. Surely schools officials have thought about the potential for high school boys to pretend to “identify” as a female just so they can have access to the girls’ restroom and, maybe, to their locker room—winking to their friends as they do it? This isn’t an unrealistic possibility. The new guidelines explain, “The responsibility for determining a student’s gender identity rests with the student.”

Furthermore, what about safety and privacy concerns for students who are not comfortable with students of the opposite sex sharing their restroom? Well, the school system has no tolerance for that kind of an intolerant attitude:

The guidance said some students may feel uncomfortable sharing those facilities, but this ‘‘discomfort is not a reason to deny access to the transgender student.’’ Education Department spokesman JC Considine said school restrooms are not public accommodations. ‘‘We’re talking about the use of school facilities by students who have no choice but to be in a school building,’’ Considine said.

In fact, the guidelines state, according to one article, that if a student expresses discomfort with sharing a restroom with an opposite-sex student, such discomfort “should not be tolerated and can be grounds for student discipline.”

Our country is quickly moving toward having a society in which there are no gender distinctions. Some of this desire to do away with gender distinctions is because there are people who want to simply follow sinful sexual desires wherever they lead, with a total lack of regard for the authority of God’s Word. Other people struggle with confusion about their “gender identity” because of the effects of sin on the world.

This is a complex issue, but Scripture is clear that in the beginning, God created man as male and female (Genesis 1:27). There is nothing in Scripture to indicate that God created some as anatomically male but who identify as female or vice versa. (We do recognize that, because of sin’s effects on the world, there are physical variations and aberrations that do cause legitimate difficulty for a very small number of people, such as hermaphroditism. For more on this, read Dr. Elizabeth Mitchell’s feedback article on hermaphroditism.) As Christians, we should affirm our children’s God-given genders and cultivate godly masculinity and femininity in them, rather than encouraging them to abandon the gender God gave them in the womb:

For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. (Psalm 139:13–14)

The Most Important Thing Any Parent Will Read Today
I’ve only met Britt Merrick once. His hand was so big it swallowed mine in the handshake. Although I do not “know” Britt and his family, I love them. Daisy is pain free today and running free in heaven. Kate, Daisy’s mom wrote some words today on the PrayForDaisy blog that are my new mission. They define what we were created to do as parents. So I thought that I would capture them so I don’t forget.

The Union Is Complete – Like in All Past Tyrannies, the Media and Democrat Party Have Become One

image
(Quite Normal)

Speaking Truth to Power
Ace of Spades described the dark reality facing the country today. At no other time in history have we seen such an unabashed union of the media and Democrat Party.  They don’t even try to hide it anymore.  Reporters used fake names to buy Obama swag this election. They offered advice to the Obama campaign. They conspired in their attacks on Mitt Romney… We’ve never seen anything quite like it. And, it’s only getting worse.

This comment below comes from Ace’s post on the “full and seamless fusion of media power with government power.”

You’re not being alarmist. It’s the single most threatening development in my lifetime. It’s hard to believe it has actually happened — how did the graduates of the finest liberal schools in the world come to a shared conviction in the importance of their own professional corruption, to subvert the essential ethic of journalism and the First Amendment? Amazing, really — every cautionary tale of the 20th century is at our disposal, right there to see both in reality and in our literature — and all are ignored or sneered at in the name of ideology and power. What profound ignorance and arrogance.

The true source of Obama’s power is completely overlooked (or willfully ignored) by the GOP, perhaps because it is too terrifying to contemplate, too awesome to engage: that he has completely removed an investigative and anti-authoritarian media (in Mencken’s famous adage, one committed in part “to afflicting the comfortable”) from the political dynamic. Obama operates with the most massive propaganda arm ever been seen in modern history. He is essentially invulnerable. At no point did Romney/Ryan come close to addressing this sick truth so dangerous to our society and freedoms. Nor do any other Republicans. Breitbart alone found expression for his moral outrage and developed a plan of counter-attack. Since he died, however, the game has gone back to carping and chronicling “media bias.” We need a battle plan.

Indeed, Andrew Breitbart understood the Democrat-media complex like no one else.

Amidst big tragedies, fears and questions, let us be found faithful in small and quiet things this Christmas season.

One family. One journey. One child who would change the world forever. The Nativity StoryIn recent weeks, our country has been facing many big things — big tragedies, big fears, big questions about the future. Yet in this season when we celebrate the birth of a little baby… in a small town… in a small province… in a great empire, may I encourage you to be found faithful in the small and quiet things. Be found faithful to your spouse and children, to those in your community, to those in need around you. Be found faithful in time spent alone with the Lord, in time spent together with those you love, in time spent preparing meals together, and giving to those less fortunate, and in doing acts of Christ-like kindness and compassion. Be found faithful, as well, in sharing the Good News of God’s loving and gracious offer to all mankind — His free gift of love, and forgiveness, and eternal life to all who will call upon the name of Jesus the Messiah in faith.

1 Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the inhabited earth. 2 This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3And everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city. 4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, 5 in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child. 6 While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. 8 In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; 11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”  15 When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger. 17 When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them. (Luke 2:1-20)
